-
Jennifer Steinkamp was born in 1958 in Denver, USA. She graduated from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
She is creating new perspectives on her work through large-scale computer animation projects. Primarily focusing on studies of light and space, she engages in artistic activities revolving around two main themes: retina and still life. "Retinal 1" (2018) and "Retinal 2" (2019) are animation pieces mimicking retinal veins. In Still Life 4 (2020), the inspiration comes from the 17th-century Flemish school's Vanitas still-life paintings, where various fruits and flower petals float and drift. However, she aimed to break the conventional notion of the emptiness and ephemeral of life, expressing positive energy and the joy of life. Breaking the boundaries between art, technology, and people, she enables viewers to fully immerse themselves in the artwork and have immediate experiences.
