Krakowwitkin Gallery | Kiki Smith: Frequency May 12, 2018

Kiki Smith has been showing with Krakow Witkin Gallery since 1985. In this latest exhibition, Smith has chosen to present a fairly deep survey of her works on paper from the last four years, in conversation with a number of sculptures in bronze and/or silver. She utilizes a wide variety of processes for the works on paper (from risograph, through cyanotype, digital editing, engraving, etching, lithography, photogravure and photopolymer to silkscreen). In addition, the works on paper, while all editioned, often have unique variants, from collage, glitter, hand-coloring, and graphite line drawing. Her variety of processes are balanced with a broad, but deep engagement with the natural world. She examines bees, birds, foliage, flowers, hoarfrost, moths, rain, stars and sunsets, among other elements. Her inquisitiveness unites subject and process, yet also leaves room for poetry and personal interpretation.
