Tim Bavington's paintings which mix the styles of traditional art with a freer spray stripe painting are the all-over ones that fill his canvas with color stripes consisting of group unit created by colors. Text and words the artist has made are converted to bar-codes through computer work and his simple-looking images, rather, are converted to a code which is undecipherable to abstract image through the processes of getting extended and painted on canvas. 

Tim Bavington's color bar code paintings which are based on binary scale, a symbolic mark of many things that today's society produces in large quantities use the vast data of mathematics, musical signs, and color mixing theory that range from the third century ancient greece to Italian renaissance as the source of work. 

This LEEAHN Gallery, Changwon's private exhibition of Tim Bavington mainly consists of works showing musical diversity and his painting works introduced in the exhibition are the ones in which he mixed music of a few generations ago with today's art, which gives an effect like music hypnotizing people. His paintings that feel like listening to guitar solos can be said to be a harmony of light and colors, which 12 different colors and 12 different tones create. Following the color stripe units that fill the long canvas like reading the movement forming music, you must be able to feel the visual music the artist planted in the works. 

Artist Tim Bavington was born in U.K. in 1996 and currently works at Las Vegas. He has held private exhibitions more than 20 times in New York, London and Paris, etc., and his works are owned by The Museum of Modern Art(MOMA), New York, Fredrick R. Weisman Collection, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and Portland Art Museum, Portland, etc.

전통적 미술의 양식에 자유로운 스프레이 스트라이프 페인팅을 혼합한 팀 바빙턴의 회화는 색채가 만들어내는 군집의 단위를 이루는 컬러스트라이프로 화면을 가득 채우는 올오버(all-over) 회화이다. 작가가 만들어낸 텍스트와 언어가 컴퓨터 작업을 통해 바코드로 전환되고 단순해 보이는 작가의 이미지는 확대되고 캔버스에 칠해지는 과정을 거쳐 오히려 추상적인 이미지로 해독이 불가능한 하나의 코드로 변환된다. 

오늘날 현대사회가 양산해내는 수많은 것들의 상징적 표식이 되는 이진법에 기초한 팀 바빙턴의 컬러 바코드 회화는 3세기 고대 그리스로부터 이탈리아 르네상스의 수학, 음악표기 그리고 색채혼합 이론에 이르는 방대한 자료를 작업의 출처로 삼고 있다. 

이번 리안갤러리 창원 팀 바빙턴의 개인전은 음악적 다양성을 보여주는 작품들이 주를 이루는데 전시에 소개되는 작가의 회화작품은 몇 세대전의 음악을 오늘의 예술과 혼합한 것으로 이는 사람에게 최면을 거는 음악과도 같은 효과를 만들어낸다. 마치 기타 솔로를 듣는 것과도 같은 그의 회화는 12가지 색채와 12가지 서로 다른 톤이 만들어내는 빛과 색채의 하모니라 할 수 있다. 음악을 이루는 단위인 악장을 읽듯이 긴 화면을 채우는 컬러스트라이프의 단위를 따라 가다보면 작가가 작품에 심어놓은 시각적 음악을 느끼게 될 것이다. 

팀 바빙턴 작가는 1966년 영국에서 태어났으며 현재 라스베거스에서 작업중이다. 뉴욕, 런던, 파리 등에서 20여회가 넘는 개인전을 가졌으며 뉴욕현대미술관 (MoMA), Fredrick R. Weisman Collection, Museum of Contemporary Art 샌디에고, Portland Art Museum 포틀랜드 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다. 국내 개인전은 이번 리안갤러리 창원이 처음으로 애호가 여러분들의 많은 관심을 바란다.
